JOINING A FRATERNITY

Incoming student typically join during Winter Recruitment due to deferred recruitment. However, all students, from Sophomores to Seniors, are welcome to rush at any point! Our fraternities recruit using both our official Winter Primary Recruitment week and Informal Recruitment year-round.

FALL RECRUITMENT

Fraternities at Northwestern are not permitted to give out bids to Freshman students during the fall. Only Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are eligible to receive official bids during the fall quarter. However, all students are encouraged to engage with chapters during the fall as many will host events, info sessions, and engagement activities. The IFC council will be setup at the quarterly org fair and will host an IFC-wide info session during the first few weeks of the fall quarter. Be sure to fill out out IFC recruitment interest form, available at the link in our bio on our Instagram (@nu.ifc) to indicate your interest in the recruitment process and in specific chapters.

WINTER PRIMARY

Winter Primary Recruitment offers a more structured format to recruitment where you can visit houses, attend their recruitment events, and fully participate in the bid process. In the winter quarter, all classes at Northwestern (Freshman through Senior) become eligible to receive a bid. The IFC will host info sessions throughout the quarter, and we’ll be at the org fair in Norris during week one. If you haven’t yet filled out the IFC interest form by the start of winter quarter and you know you would like to participate in winter recruitment, make sure to do so.

SPRING RECRUITMENT

Many chapters continue to offer recruitment into the spring quarter. If you’re reading this and it’s spring, that does not mean you’ve missed out! Refer to chapters’ pages on this site and Instagram accounts for the most up-to-date information on their recruitment cycles, and don’t hesitate to reach out to chapters’ recruitment chairs with any questions or concerns. Chapters typically list their recruitment chairs’ phone numbers on their Instagram post announcing an upcoming year’s new executive board.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN A FRATERNITY?

Fraternity membership offers a community, a network, and a foundation for some of the most meaningful relationships of your college career. Members gain access to brotherhood, leadership development, philanthropic opportunities, alumni mentorship, and a second family.

Northwestern's IFC chapters span a wide range of interests, backgrounds, and cultures. Whatever you're looking for in college, there's likely a chapter for you!
